LIU JIANG

Liu Jiang began working with leather in 1998. Using natural vegetable-tanned cowhide as his core material, he creates leather paintings, lamps, and small objects that highlight the innate texture and vitality of the material. The patina and traces of time preserved in the leather record the passage of moments, offering a unique visual and tactile experience.

Through touching the leather and engaging in dialogue with it, Liu has deeply perceived its softness as well as its firmness after hardening upon contact with water. This profound understanding of the material resonates with the influence of Zen meditation practice on his creative process. Leather, as a medium, not only carries the imprints of life but also becomes a bridge for inner conversation. Each piece is a journey of light emanating from a tender heart—warm yet resolute, soft yet powerful.
