ISAMU NOGUCHI

Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) was a visionary artist and sculptor renowned for his pioneering contributions to modernist design. Born to an American mother and Japanese father, Noguchi's multicultural heritage deeply influenced his artistic sensibilities. He achieved international acclaim for his innovative sculptures, furniture designs, and public installations, seamlessly blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with Western modernism. Noguchi's diverse body of work encompassed everything from stone and metal sculptures to paper lanterns and stage sets. His iconic creations, such as the Akari lamps, remain timeless classics in the world of design.

For Ark Kollekt 04, in collaboration with gallerist and collector Stefan Lindher, we present a selection of four early Akari light sculptures that transformed traditional paper lanterns into transcendent objects of art.
