FREDDY TUPPEN

Freddy Tuppen is a London-based architectural designer and artist whose work explores the relationship between materials, structure, and craftsmanship. His practice is guided by an experimental approach, balancing precision with an intuitive engagement with form and process.
Working across architecture, furniture, and objects, Tuppen focuses on the act of making as a central part of his design philosophy. His pieces often reveal their construction, celebrating the tension between structure and fluidity, control and spontaneity. Whether working with wood, metal, or textiles, he develops systems that allow for organic variations, creating works that feel both meticulously crafted and naturally evolved.

Tuppen studied at The Bartlett School of Architecture before completing an MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art. In addition to his practice, he teaches at The Bartlett, fostering conversations around design, materiality, and the role of craft in contemporary architecture.

His work reflects a deep curiosity about how things are made—whether designing a building, a piece of furniture, or an experimental object, he is driven by a hands-on exploration of materials and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional techniques.

For Ark Kollekt 11, Freddy Tuppen has made two lamps, each formed from a single continuous thread applied to a metal / wood frame.
