ELSE NICOLAI HANSEN

Else Nicolai Hansen is Copenhagen based silversmith. Her exceptional work is based on an interest for creating everyday objects in silver. The function of the design describes the purpose and her comment of the present life and rituals. The design process always starts with chaos, while she increases the recognizable and creates her own frame of reference and way of use. She gets her inspiration by the element of silver; the material, shape and function.

Else graduated as a silversmith and designer from the Institute of Fine Metals, Copenhagen and continued her education at the Advanced Craft City & Guilds of London Institute's where she completed her examination in Silversmithing at the Sir John Cass Faculty of Arts and Design, London, UK before opening her own workshop. Else refined her skills at the Danish College of Jewellery and Silversmithing, Copenhagen and completed a further apprenticeship at Georg Jensen Silver Ltd, Copenhagen.
