Jóhan Martin Christiansen (b. 1987, the Faroe Islands) is a visual artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. He holds an MFA from Malmö Art Academy (2014) and participated in the
interdiciplinary programme Of Public Interest at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (2023-24).
Working across sculpture, plaster relief, printmaking, and video, Christiansen explores the relation between the body and materiality, with a particular focus on how materials are experienced and handled within specific physical, emotional and philosophical contexts. His practice is informed by
subjects such as natural and urban environments, language and belonging, queer boily experiences, pop music, and art history.
His work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions, among them SPOR at National Gallery of the Faroe Islands (2016); Lonely Hearts at Listahøllin (Tórshavn 2018); You are a flower and in the vinter I miss U at Heerz Tooya (2022); RELIEF at Kohta (2024), GRACE at Alice Folker Gallery (2025); Inside Voices, Outside Light at Scandinavia House, New York (2026); and 55,6° NORTH at ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art (2026).
His works are held in public collections such as ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art, SMK – National Gallery of Denmark, and the National Gallery of the Faroe
Islands.
