Pia Engström Agesen is a Danish Contemporary Artist based in Sweden. She was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts, Aarhus. She works with aesthetics in line with ´Wabi Sabi´, a Japanese concept of the art of impermanence that refers to an awareness of the transient nature of earthly things and a corresponding pleasure in the things that bear the mark of this impermanence. Pia uses this traditional concept as her guideline, which reflects authenticity, imperfection and simplicity.
For Ark Kollekt 09, Pia Engström Agesen presents a series of ceramic bowls that are “unique pieces of Mother Earth.” The Gaia series boasts earthen elements with components of both feminine elegance through shape and masculine tendencies through colour and feel, representing nature as one.
