HANS SEVERIN JACOBSEN

Drawing on architectural principles, design, and craftsmanship traditions, Hans Severin Jacobsen explores the encounter between materials in unprecedented contexts. Educated in architecture and as a craftsman making furniture he is intrigued by the aesthetic values that arise when materials and techniques from different disciplines are merged and examined. “In my work, a dialogue emerges about how the industrial and the artisanal can challenge our perception of the inherent history and aesthetics of materials.” Natural stone is a recurring element. Jacobsen collects stones from fields and beaches throughout the landscape, carefully selecting them based on shape, colour and texture. He then incorporates them largely unchanged into furniture pieces, in which the aluminium structure is as linear and rigorous as the stones are rough and unhewn. His present works investigate the interaction between unprocessed granite and industrially produced aluminium sheet.

For Ark Kollect 01 he presents Stool 05, Stool 13 and Stool 14 in red or pink fieldstone.
