LIS ANDERSEN

Lis Andersen is a Danish sculptor artist born in 1953. Andersen was attended Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Kolding, Denmark, and continued her education at Istituto d’arte Della Ceramica Faenza and Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, Italy.

She almost exclusively works with various types of wood and stone. The authoritarianism that lies in format and frontality is contradicted by the vulnerability that is a consequence of the encounter between these two inherently different materials. The interplay between the hard stone and comparatively soft wood creates a palpable tension within the piece while simultaneously working together, resulting in a beautiful material harmony.
