DANIELLE SIGGERUD

Trained and practising as an architect, Danielle Siggerud gravitates towards minimalism and natural materials, working in an intuitive and artistic way with emotions, references and reflections. Many of her projects encompass furniture and objects which she believes should be exploratory and playful when it comes to balance, proportion and surface as well as functional and beautiful. “Creating furniture and working on a bodily scale, I get to practice this kind of softer, more organic visual language.” Her Drop Stool extracts and experiments with two geometries, a circle and a square, the first carrying spiritual meaning infinite with no end and the latter often a symbol of the material. “I wanted to create a sculptural object that extracts and experiments with two archaic forms from architectural history. Scaling these down to more approachable proportions allows us to experience their corporeal qualities up close in an uninhibited way.” Originally made from a solid block of stone, the Drop Stool showcased in Ark Kollekt 01 is made in Scandinavian pine in pieces carefully selected from the same tree. The 32 pieces are joined into a single shape and the surface is polished with resin-filled shavings. The material is much more than a tone, growth rings are matched meticulously, so the lines of the wood intertwines. In time the colour of the wood will naturally darken into a warmer, deeper tone.
