Born in Luzhou, Sichuan, Huang Yan established an independent ceramic studio in Jingdezhen in 2017. She specializes in creating white porcelain ware, moving away from traditionally symmetrical circular forms to embrace more natural, fluid, and irregular shapes. Instead of using dotted decoration techniques, she applies designs precisely along flowing edges. Her work not only emphasizes the external glaze color but also pursues the intrinsic texture and hue of the ceramic body.
To Han, white is the most "unobtrusive" color—extensive blank spaces are used to highlight the true substance of the objects while evoking boundless imagination during appreciation. Her hands touch the clay, and it responds with ever-changing expressions, a process she deeply cherishes.
For Collection 17, Han presents three white porcelain works, Flower Vase, Bowl, and Round Jar.
