KARIN AMBO

Karin Ambo is a Danish ceramicist, fascinated by the multitudes of clay’s possibilities. Having worked with many different materials over her artistic journey, Ambo ultimately surrendered to working with clay exclusively, cherishing “the huge gift to be able to shape, model, turn and build.”

Process informs Ambo’s creative approach just as much as outcome, imagining finished pieces as “final expressions” of various technical experimentations. Deeply inspired by the Japanese pottery tradition of kurinuki—carving a vessel from a single block of clay—Ambo embraces the vulnerability that arise from visible fingerprints and raw, sculptural marks that reveal themselves after firing. Her works are evocative of the impermanent in the natural world, with the surface textures reminiscent of rocks and soil that transform in different conditions.

Ark Kollekt presents six lidded ceramic jars for Collection 16, all hand-crafted from black and golden clay, porcelain, ceramic paste and finished with a transparent glaze.
