Interior stylist Pernille Vest creates scenography that stimulate the senses. She approaches each composition with the ambition to “gently seduce the viewer, making them fall in love with a single object, or the holistic experience of the image.” Her practice has led from fashion design to interiors, commercial to editorial and now an integral part of the Ark Journal team, celebrating the interplay of architecture, art, and design.
Vest talks to the ambitions for Ark Kollekt X Local, the curation of the first collection and her stylistic approach.
“The collection is thematically centred around the concept of 'local,' with an exclusive focus on designers rooted in Denmark,” says Vest of Ark Kollekt 01. The collection forms the first iteration of Ark Kollekt X Local, a nomadic exhibition that will work with different people in different places, celebrating distinctive characteristics inherent to each locale.
The selected objects represent a diverse range of materials, each with its own unique expression and characteristics. These materials span from “heavy to light, opaque to transparent, sustainable to residual," Vest elaborates. “The inclusion of the Offcut Collection by Lærke Ryom, fabricated from residual wood, highlights the commitment to sustainable design practices. Similarly, the table designed by Norm Architects for Malte Gormsen, constructed from indigenous beech wood, underscores the emphasis on locally sourced materials.”
Of particular interest she mentions chairs by Josefine Hell that “occupy a distinctive intersection between art and functionality” and “the innovative approaches of designers such as Bonnie Hvillum, who works with natural materials in unconventional and experimental manners.”
