Ark Kollekt presents five wood-fired ceramic works by Jiang Maxiang for design/delight Shanghai.

For Maxiang, wood-firing offers no pursuit of fixed, perfect outcomes – rather the intuitive dialogue between fire, clay and ash. The Zhejiang-born artist descibes the crux of his process as a “controlled loss of control” observing both life’s perpetual flux and its many intrinsic juxtapositions.

Stretches of thuja ash and fire marks reveal themselves across Maxiang’s richly textured works, attestations of characteristics that render the pieces uniquely alive.
