From the easternmost coast of Svaneke, Denmark, emerge Josephine Graff Vallant’s hand-carved collection of spoons, crafted from birch wood and treated with sunflower oil. All pieces are made by wood from Graff Vallant’s family house in Skagen, Denmark, with strikingly tactile designs inspiring renewed admiration for the sensuality of the everyday. 

Pooling designs and meticulous sanding to achieve sleek, spiralling grooves are evocative of delicate refinement, juxtaposing the fierce beauty of the Danish coast. Capacity for reflection is crucial to her practice; each work invites us to pause. 

The spoons are currently on view as part of the Ark Kollekt exhibition at St. Leo, curated by Pernille Vest. Hosted in St. Leo’s Copenhagen showroom – a space that honors material sensitivity and timeless design – the exhibition brings together sculptural works in wood, clay, glass, and metal.
