For Ark Kollekt #08, designer Georg Mengel presents a “First Edition” of the MA-STOOL consisting of a collection of twenty numbered and signed pieces.

»I want MENGEL designs to be honest, accessible, and easy to understand. Playful and thought evoking. Balancing functionality and elegance, whilst creating harmony for the eye through each element of the design«. - Georg Mengel.

With this design philosophy in mind, MENGEL created a series of these stools specifically for the Ark Journal Design/Dialogue exhibition for 3DaysofDesign 2024.

The exhibition took place at Pakhus 11, nestled alongside the city’s canals at the center of Copenhagen, the historical setting and exhibited pieces creating a beautiful interplay between art, architecture, and design. Connections were made between modern and established design traditions and values, the result being a meaningful dialogue between the past and present.

The MA STOOL was designed by MENGEL and commissioned for the Design / Dialogue exhibition curated by Ark Journal for 3DaysofDesign 2024. Design / Dialogue is a new exhibition concept leading the way for the future of design, craftsmanship, and creative collaborations. For the first time during 3DaysofDesign, Ark Journal brought together more than twenty international design brands and artists from all corners of the world. Curated by the team behind Ark Journal, the focus of this exhibition is to promote high-quality design and to show new products in an inspiring and relevant way.

Finding a balance between contrasts is also an approach Mengel takes in his design process and which was predominantly the objective for the MA STOOL. For Ark Kollekt #08 Mengel presents a ´First Edition´ of MA Stool that will be available exclusively on Ark Kollekt. The first edition will be released with a production run of only twenty individually numbered and signed giving the object its unique marker. Rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition, the stool is handcrafted and produced in minimally treated, local Scandinavian pine, showcasing the natural material with its visible fibrillation and organic textures making each individual stool one-of-a-kind. The use of natural, organic material is aligned to MENGELS design philosophy of ´honesty´ and the intricate yet clean design indicate expert craftmanship and add detail to its simple construction. The stool is functional and simple with a sculptural form, making it suitable both as a seating compliment or side table.
