Guided by memory and intuition, both the individual and unified practices of Rafael Prieto, founder of creative practice Savvy Studio, and French artist Loup Sarion, probe, play and think with the poetics of functionality. As Marrow, and as part of an evolving design project, the duo has stretched linen over a hand-sculpted skeleton of steel based on a sketched silhouette, creating one-off lamps that reference and rescale bone fragments, “like anatomy for illumination”, they explain.

Ahead of the launch of Ark Kollekt 02, in collaboration with ESSE 7, showcasing three alluring light sculptures by Marrow, Ark Journal visited the dual home and studio of Prieto in Manhattan’s TriBeCa, to aptly share an intimate meal in celebration of our partnership.

Prieto spoke with Ark Kollekt about the duo’s ambitions and inspiration for Marrow.
