ARK JOURNAL VOL X

ANNIVERSARY
ISSUE

Ark Journal Volume 10 is our tribute to the worlds of design and architecture – past, present, and future – which have defined and inspired our journey over the past five years. For this issue, we delve further into the intersections of human life with architecture and design, uncovering the profound impact they can have on our lives at home and in public spaces.

This time, we visit designer Phillip Lim´s beachside house in Long Island; a historic house in Düsseldorf remade for the artist Su Xiaobai; a brutalist home in Bruges; Henri Timi’s workshop in Marche, to name a few. We speak to Formafantasma and Tadao Ando, as well as inviting Colin King to style and curate the craft culture-centred collection of American designer Jack Lenor Larsen. Our case studies with stylist Pernille Vest continue, exploring the perfectly imperfect, unpolished edges and raw materiality that reveals simple perfection.

At Ark Journal, we believe that our magazine is more than just a publication; it’s a celebration of the beauty and simplicity that defines Scandinavian design and architecture. It has always been important to us that the material quality of Ark Journal matches the honest and inventive design stories in the magazine.

ARK LISTENS

SCRATCH OF THE WOOL BY ALISA LARSEN

ARK LISTENS

SCRATCH OF THE WOOL BY ALISA LARSEN

On the cusp of autumn after a lengthy Indian summer, we are anticipating the quiet and slowness that comes with the season. This month, we asked Alisa Larsen, contributing writer and part of the editorial team, to put together a playlist that reflects the calm atmosphere of her favourite month, October. Including tracks by Tara Clerkin Trio, Cluster, even Frank Sinatra, she invites you to embrace the cool crisp air and scratch of the wool with an hour of gently invigorating sounds.

Discover the playlist ARK LISTENS #01 for Ark Journal’s VOL X launch and Ark Kollekt‘s opening exhibition.

ARK KOLLEKT X LOCAL

COPENHAGEN

ARK KOLLEKT X LOCAL

COPENHAGEN

Integral to our ambitions forArk Kollekt is a desire to support local communities of designers, artists and other practitioners. We want to work with different people in different places to celebrate characteristics specific to that locale, be they materials, typologies, techniques or attitudes. To that end we are launching Ark Kollekt X Local, a nomadic exhibition to showcase our curation and collections.

Naturally the first iteration of Ark Kollekt X Local, is in Copenhagen, our home. Curated by Ark Journal, led by stylist Pernille Vest, the exhibition features the work of 11 up-and-coming and established Danish designers, artists and architects. Local in a geographic sense but also in their shared attitudes and values.

Nicholas Shurey, Naja Utzon Popov, Malte Gormsen, Bonnie Hvillum, Yukari Hotta, Lærke Ryom, Josefine Hell, Danielle Siggerud, Hans Severin Jacobsen, Alexander Kirkeby and the duo Frederik Nystrup-Larsen & Oliver Sundqvist.
